Fully licensed in locating and assessing the risk of asbestos

If a building was refurbished or built before 2002 in the UK, it is quite possible that asbestos-containing materials were used during the construction process. When asbestos fibres are released into the air, it can pose a severe health risk. Inhalation of the microscopic particles can lead to serious respiratory diseases including asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Our expert asbestos surveyors are licensed to identify the presence and risk of asbestos in your home or workplace. When we understand whether asbestos is present and whether it is a risk, we can then develop an asbestos management plan to help you understand what to do next. This could include asbestos removal, encapsulation or the ongoing monitoring of the asbestos.

Do you need an asbestos survey?

Whether you need an asbestos survey depends on various factors, including the age and type of building, the suspected presence of asbestos-containing materials, and the intended use or renovation plans for the building. If you aren’t sure whether you need an asbestos survey, get in touch.

    Asbestos at home

If you have an older home, asbestos may be found in various building materials used in your house, such as paint, insulation and floor tiles. Before carrying out any renovation work that could disturb the asbestos-containing material, you should consider an asbestos survey or asbestos sampling to determine your level of risk.

    Asbestos in the workplace

In line with UK law, employers have a duty to protect people and staff from exposure to asbestos fibres in the workplace. There are strict regulations in place which outline the necessary steps for identifying and managing asbestos in the workplace, who can carry out work on asbestos, what training is required, what controls they need to use and what records they need to keep.

    Types of Asbestos Surveys

Our asbestos management surveys are designed to locate materials in a building that may contain asbestos. If any asbestos-containing materials are present, we will then assess the level of risk to building occupants. When required, we will take samples of the materials to analyse and determine whether asbestos is present. If the risk is high, we will make suggestions on how to prevent exposure.

    Management Asbestos Survey

The asbestos management survey is the most common type and is conducted to manage asbestos-containing materials during the normal use of a building. This survey type is ideal for locating the presence and condition of asbestos that could be damaged or disturbed during normal activities. Our surveyors will then determine the level of risk to occupants and workers and make suggestions on how to address these risks.

    Refurbishment Survey

The refurbishment survey is specifically designed to identify and manage asbestos-containing materials before any refurbishment or renovation work takes place in a building. This type of survey is more intrusive and extensive than a management survey because it involves destructive testing and sampling to locate hidden asbestos that may be disturbed during refurbishment activities.

    Demolition Asbestos Survey

When asbestos-containing materials are disturbed during demolition work, toxic fibres are released into the air. Therefore, it is essential to conduct an asbestos survey before commencing any demolition projects to identify the presence of asbestos and manage the associated risks accordingly.

    Re-Inspection Survey

For buildings that have previously undergone a Management Asbestos Survey, we provide Re-Inspection Surveys to re-evaluate the condition of known or suspected asbestos-containing materials. This survey type aims to determine the level of risk and update the management plan accordingly.

    Asbestos Sampling

If a full survey is not required, we also provide an asbestos sampling and analysis service. This is ideal for when there is a concern for certain materials in a building. A bulk sample can be taken or collected by ourselves and an Asbestos Fibre Identification certificate is produced for each batch of samples analysed.
