Working within a petrochemical facility we carried out extensive asbestos removal works consisting of various types of asbestos including asbestos insulation, asbestos insulation board, and asbestos cement products.

The main works consisted of removing asbestos insulation from pipework within external trenches at ground level, at height and within confined spaces. The majority of the removal had to be removed utilising glove bagging and the wrap and cut method, with a significate section having the insulation removed under full controlled condition within fully sealed enclosures.

The trenches were unoccupied and open to the elements, however still had other trades required to work in the vicinity and in close proximity to other surrounding working buildings. Therefore it was essential to install segregated access and egress routes conformed with strict health and safety standards.

The works consisted of the below items:

External Trenches

  • Decontamination unit in place for removal personnel
  • Full polythene sheeted enclosure subject to negative pressure
  • Airlock and baglock to be used
  • Dedicated waste & transit routes to be utilised
  • Personal monitoring, leak testing and 4 stage clearance testing to be carried out by the independent analytical laboratory
  • HEPA filtered air mover will be used to ensure the room remains under negative pressure
  • Removal of pipework lengths containing asbestos insulation using the wrap and cut method.
